SUMMARY:New NJ State Historic Tax Credit: Critical for Preservation\, Smart
  Growth\, and the Economy
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, June 11 at 3:15PM\nas part of virtual NJ Planning and 
 Redevelopment Conference\nHistoric preservation is a critical strategy for
  aesthetic\, cultural\, environmental\, and economic perspectives and is a
  key tool for smart growth. Since the 1970s\, historic tax credits (HTCs) 
 for investing in historic rehabilitation have been a critically important 
 incentive. There is a federal HTC and about 35 state HTCs. While for many 
 years New Jersey was the only Northeast state that did not have a state HT
 C\, the New Jersey Economic Recovery Act of 2020\, enacted December 2020\,
  has authorized a state historic tax credit for the Garden State. This ses
 sion summarizes the larger context of federal and state HTCs in the United
  States\, then details the financial provisions of the new HTC in New Jers
 ey\, and finally describes the field-level historic preservation\, plannin
 g\, adaptive reuse\, and downtown revitalization importance and applicatio
